From the Chair
A couple of weeks ago, I had the opportunity to represent APAC at the WSU graduation ceremonies. It reminded me of why we, as administrative professionals, work hard to support the experience of those students. The excitement was palpable on the new graduates’ faces. And many of them had pretty cool decorations on their mortarboards. Congratulations to the new WSU alumni!
APAC won’t be meeting for the summer, but if issues come up for you, or if you have some ideas or thoughts on improving our work lives at WSU, we’ll be around. Send an email or call, and we’ll get back to you. Have an excellent summer!

2016 Administrative Professional Contribution Award
Congratulations to the two winners of the Administrative Professional Contribution Award: Nikki Hinshaw from Vancouver and Darrel Nelson from Pullman. This award recognizes WSU administrative professionals who have contributed beyond their expected or required performance in their area/unit, for the university and the community making a unique different and/or their efforts have had a far-reaching impact.
Nikki has been with WSU Vancouver for 3½ years where she advises ASWSUV and the Student Ambassador program and plan large scale events such as Women of Distinction. “It is a pleasure to work with students who have such a diverse experiences and passions. It continually inspires me to be the best I can be and learn from others.” Nikki feels lucky to be part of the VanCoug experience and work with students, faculty and staff who are making a difference in our community. Congratulations Nikki for your outstanding contributions and achievements to WSU and your community.
Darrel has been with WSU Pullman since 2000 when he and his wife moved to the Palouse so she can attend veterinary school. He has been with the College of Veterinary Medicine for 15 years in 4 different capacitates including animal care staff, animal care supervisor, anatomy lab technical support and most currently as a classroom and teaching support supervisor. In those years Darrel also had time to receive his BS in Natural Resources from WSU in 2009 and has a list of awards behind his name. Darrel is proud of his teaching models that has helped other DMV programs including the complete camel skeleton he built and shipped to Qatar Saudi Arabia for the Emir and the Camel Veterinary clinic. “One of my most enjoyable responsibilities is curating the Worthman Veterinary Anatomy Museum where I give tours to the public. I give brief talks and discussions with school children from all over the state, as well as other Junior colleges and tech programs.” Congratulations Darrel on your outstanding contributions and achievements to WSU and the community.

Northwest Coalition of Professional Staff Conference

BBQ on the Terrell Mall
Faculty, staff and students are invited to enjoy music and a barbecue during Wednesdays on the Mall, May 18-July 27 from 11:30 a.m. – 1:15 p.m. This event will take place on Terrell Mall in front of Todd Hall.
